CISC Semiconductor Design+Consulting GmbH, headquartered in Klagenfurt, Austria, develops and integrates electronic and microelectronic systems. Established in 1999, the company is exploring new ways of facilitating and streamlining the introduction and use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) in practice.

As a partner of the METRO GROUP Future Store Initiative, CISC contributes to the RFID Innovation Center. In the center’s affiliated testing and training facility, the European EPC Competence Center (EECC), the company operates a system that permits the precise assessment of transponder performance in specific usage scenarios. Apart from this, the CISC portfolio also includes measurement services for radio frequency fields. METRO GROUP as well as suppliers and hardware manufacturers rely on a CISC simulation software application in the development and optimization of their RFID solutions.

The RFID Tag Emulator is a proprietary solution developed by CISC. The device is used in place of a real RFID transponder to test and analyze systems operating in the ultrahigh-frequency range. Depending on requirements, the Tag Emulator can be set up with different time and performance parameters in order to evaluate transponder functionality in extreme scenarios. It has been on the market since November 2007. The Tag Emulator offers system integrators and companies like METRO GROUP a cost-effective and simple method of analyzing and verifying the performance of RFID readers, system installations, or designs for special applications.
