Individual Checkout

At the real,- Future Store, customers can pay for their shopping at various checkouts - and determine the degree of convenience and speed. Checkouts with service staff are available in a sufficient number. Here, staff members scan the items for the customer. The total amount can then be paid in cash, by debit or credit card, or wirelessly.

 Self-scanning

At the Self-Checkouts, the customer himself takes over. They scan the barcodes of their purchases and then pay directly at the unit.

Another variant is the Express Self-Checkout. Here, customers scan the barcodes of their purchases or the service staff scans the items. After that, the customers receive a voucher which they then take to the paystation. There, they choose between the payment methods: cash or card. Since more paystations than Express Self-Checkouts are available for scanning the items, customers determines the payment speed themselves without feeling the pressure of customers waiting behind them. In addition, anonymity is increased, e.g. when entering the PIN.

If customers use their Mobile Shopping Assistant (MSA) to register their purchases, they can directly go to the paystation in the area of the Express Self-Checkouts. Irrespective of the selected checkout method, participants in the PAYBACK bonus program will always have the possibility to have the bonus points for their purchases credited.

 Pay by Wireless

Customers with a MasterCard PayPass card can also pay their shopping bills wirelessly at all the checkouts in the real,- Future Store. All they have to do is hold their card up to a card reader and wait for a sound and a visual signal that indicate that the card has been read and payment has been effected. Customers need only enter their personal identification number (PIN) or sign a receipt or at a signature pad if their items total €25 or more. The PIN may be requested at random for purchases amounting to less than €25 for security and safety reasons. Wireless payment is convenient because it eliminates the need to insert a payment card into a reader. What’s more, the customer keeps hold of their card throughout the entire payment process.

This process is based on technology called Near Field Communication (NFC) in which data is exchanged securely across a small distance of a few centimeters without any physical contact. NFC computer chips serve both as receivers and transmitters. They can be incorporated into credit cards and will also feature in mobile phones in the future. Pay by Wireless is an option at the real,- Future Store for customers with a MasterCard PayPass card, including PAYBACK Maestro cards and the Lufthansa Miles & More credit card.
