FEIG ELECTRONIC GmbH, established in 1970, is a leading global manufacturer of RFID reader systems, which it markets under the brand name OBID®. The hardware is developed to international standards and in close cooperation with leading RFID chip producers, making it compatible with all commonly available transponder types. FEIG ELECTRONIC GmbH offers reader/writers for various frequencies (LF, HF and UHF) which are deployed mainly in the retail sector and logistics, but are also used in numerous niche markets.

As a future technology, RFID is of strategic importance to medium-sized companies. In addition to expanding its range of RFID-based products, FEIG is continuously working to attract additional customers with a comprehensive range of RFID-related services. Made-to-measure product solutions play an increasing role.

Retail companies use RFID readers produced by FEIG ELECTRONIC GmbH for instance at portals for incoming and outgoing goods. As a partner of the METRO GROUP Future Store Initiative, the RFID technology provider conducts regular field studies and pilot tests to optimize its product development process. This is a major benefit, as only real-life testing can reveal whether an application actually meets the requirements of retail customers. Close cooperation with other technology partners in the initiative is helping FEIG ELECTRONIC GmbH to actively advance the spread of innovative RFID solutions and related product solutions.

On the market since mid-2004, the RFID HF Long Range Reader ID ISC.LR2000 has since been further improved with various new features and add-ons. The reader operates on a frequency of 13.56 MHz and boasts an impressive range of interfacing options and operating modes. The METRO GROUP Future Store Initiative deploys these readers mainly in the incoming and outgoing goods areas and in the context of Smart Shelves. In these applications, the system can achieve long read ranges of up to 150 centimeters. As the RFID HF Long Range Reader is compatible with all other readers in the OBID i-scan® product family, it can be readily integrated into existing systems.

The RFID HF Gate Antenna ID ISC.ANT1300/680 has been available since March 2008. It is the latest addition to the OBID i-scan® range of 13.56 MHz gate antennas. Benefits include its light weight, simple installation and a low price that makes multiple-antenna solutions affordable. In the METRO GROUP Future Store Initiative, these antennas are intended for use in Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) as well as contactless personal and product identification. Their maximum read range is 95 centimeters (in three dimensions). The reader, the power splitter and the multiplexer enabling multi-antenna configurations are securely and neatly integrated into the antenna base.

The ID ISC.LRU2000 RFID UHF Long Range Reader was introduced onto the European (868 MHz) and North American markets (902–928 MHz) in 2005. Up to four external antennas support read ranges of up to five meters in incoming and outgoing goods areas. Special operating modes, such as the Dense Reader Mode, support the installation of up to 20 readers in a confined space, for instance in a warehouse. The RFID UHF Long Range Reader is compatible with all other readers in the OBID i-scan® product family, and can be readily and economically integrated into existing systems.

The RFID UHF ID ISC.MRU200 Mid Range Reader was launched in December 2007. The reader is available in two versions, one for the European and another for the North American market. With read ranges of up to 2.5 meters and two antenna inputs, the device can be used wherever individual articles need to be registered and identified, for instance on Smart Shelves. A multiplexer is provided to support multi-antenna configurations. This RFID UHF Mid Range Reader is compatible with all other readers in the OBID i-scan® product family.
