In cooperation with the University of Leeds in England, CHEP has developed a ‘green calculator’ – a device that for the first time provides scientific data on the economic and ecological benefits of using CHEP pallets as opposed to single-use or exchange pallets. To do this, the calculator assesses various parameters such as pallet size, travel distance and CHEP’s operating and pooling efficiency. It also takes into consideration the savings in wood use and reduction of the carbon dioxide footprint. The application lets pallet users calculate for themselves to what extent participation in the CHEP pooling system can reduce emissions and thus contribute to environmental protection.
