Future Store Initiative presents deployment of innovations within METRO GROUP at the DHL Innovation Day
This year, Dr. Gerd Wolfram, Head of the CIO Office of METRO AG, together with other leading representatives from industry, academia and society participated in the panel discussion under the heading "RFID - Quo vadis?". In the discussion, the successful deployment of the RFID technology in merchandise logistics at METRO GROUP was highlighted as best practice. At around 400 locations in Europe, METRO Group is using the RFID technology in warehouses and stores operated by the sales divisions Metro Cash & Carry and Real. In total, around three million pallets per year are delivered using RFID.
In addition, 18 partners of DHL also presented trend-setting applications and technologies in the framework of an exhibition which was divided into four sections: RFID Village, Smart Services, Research Area and Green Technologies.
At the RFID Village, in addition to IBM and Oracle the METRO GROUP Future Store Initiative was represented as well. At this stand, visitors had the opportunity to inform themselves about the use of RFID at METRO GROUP. The displays included a prototype of a mobile RFID handheld reader and a demonstration product with an RFID transponder from the real,- Future Store in Toenisvorst. Among the numerous stand visitors were Professor Andreas Pinkwart, Minister for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology of the German state of North Rhine Westphalia, Dr Frank Appel, CEO of Deutsche Post AG and Mr Clemens Reinhard, Member of the Board of Deutsche Telekom AG.
The annual DHL Innovation Awards recognise groundbreaking logistics solutions in the categories "Most innovative customer", "Most innovative scientist" and "Most innovative employee".
