IBM campaign highlights METRO GROUP as a pioneer in RFID technology

 13 November 2009
Retail companies around the world are facing the same challenges: They have to continually improve their service quality and at the same time work more effectively and cost efficiently within their supply chains. As a pioneer in the field of innovative technologies, METRO GROUP uses a software for monitoring the merchandise along the complete supply chain.
Under the heading "How foresighted is your supply chain", a campaign launched by IBM in September 2009 made reference to this issue:

"METRO GROUP uses EPCIS to ensure the quality and freshness of food products along the complete supply chain".

The advertisement was placed in the Financial Times, Wirtschaftswoche, Manager Magazin and other popular economics publications.

 Electronic Product Code Information Services

METRO GROUP uses the IBM EPCIS (Electronic Product Code Information Services) software to track merchandise along the complete supply chain. This software serves as a repository for capturing and managing data on inventory levels and expiration dates as well as further key information in the ‘Meistermetzgerei’ butchery at the real,- Future Store in Toenisvorst, North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition, the retail company uses the IBM InfoSphere Traceability Server to allow suppliers to better follow-up on items targeted for special promotions. This IBM software is fully compliant with GS1 EPCglobal’s EPCIS standard for sharing RFID information among traders.
