RFID in daily business

 9th March 2009
As the innovation leader in the use of Radio Frequency Identification and sponsor of the CeBIT Forum AutoID/RFID, the METRO GROUP Future Store Initiative on 6 March 2009 presented a lecture series on the topic "RFID in Retail and Logistics" at the world’s largest IT trade show in Hanover.
The host of the event, Dr. Gerd Wolfram, Managing Director of MGI METRO GROUP Information Technology, opened the forum with a lecture on the deployment of RFID in retailing. "RFID is a key technology to raise process efficiency and a central element for modernising METRO GROUP".
In the next lectures the speakers from DHL and the cosmetics producer Lornamead presented concrete application examples and practical experience from logistics and the consumer goods industry. Here, the focus was on the use of RFID in daily business. Using case studies, the audience also gained an insight into the development potential inherent in this technology.
IBM, for example, showed how the combination of RFID systems allows realising integrated process improvements resulting from a better overview on the business workflows. The packaging manufacturer Mondi Group gave an outlook on the next steps of RFID deployment involving intelligent packaging made from corrugated cardboard, e.g. for outer packaging.
