Launching the largest French RFID project to date
From distribution centers to stores
At six of its distribution centers, DHL will fit RFID transponders to some 1.3 million pallets per year. The deliveries pass through an outgoing goods portal equipped with RFID readers, before being loaded onto trucks. The system auto-generates an electronic dispatch note that informs the Metro cash & carry wholesale stores of the number and exact contents of the pallets that will be delivered. Once a shipment has reached its destination, the merchandise is registered by RFID readers and automatically entered in the retailer’s back-end system.
Ready for wide-scale implementation
"Our joint initiative with DHL gives ample proof of the many advantages RFID offers our partners throughout the supply chain," said Dr. Gerd Wolfram, Managing Director MGI METRO GROUP Information Technology. "Manufacturers can reap the benefits of increased efficiency, while we, as retailers, have access to high-quality information." The partners expect their collaboration to be seen as a beacon project for the entire retail industry.
