Pioneer in retailing
In 2004, METRO GROUP was one of the first retailers to start rolling out RFID its logistics and warehouse management. This process involved the sales brands Metro Cash & Carry, real,- and Galeria Kaufhof as well as the group’s own logistics service provider MGL METRO GROUP Logistics. Since mid-2007, the company has been testing RFID-based innovations on the sales floor. At the same time METRO GROUP launched the first international RFID pilot project.
Initial results and outlook
One of the most important objectives in implementing RFID is to improve logistics processes and in-store goods availability. Experience in the past few years has shown that METRO GROUP can streamline its processes thanks to the technology while cutting costs. Incoming goods is one area in which potential can be tapped, as laborious manual processes are reduced. METRO GROUP experts and their partners are working hard on increasing the efficiency of the technology even further. In the coming years, METRO GROUP is going to be significantly increasing its deployment of RFID. Ultimately, the plan is to rollout RFID gradually throughout the group’s logistics and warehouse management.
