Food and RFID
International conference on food and RFID
At the conference, the options offered by RFID already today for companies and production facilities operating in the food industry were presented. By tagging food products with RFID chips you can for example retrace the origin of a product. The technology also allows for the measurement and control of temperature data during transport. "Moreover, we should develop ideas that offer as yet undiscovered application options for this technology", said Prof. Dr. Kurt Monse, Managing Director of the FTK Forschungsinstitut für Telekommunikation [research institute for telecommunications].
Manifold application options
The program of the conference was divided into three sections. In the first section, experts and users informed about latest developments in the food industry and the resulting potential for the RFID technology. The second part of the event were workshops, which were held in parallel. They focused on the three food categories "Cheese and dairy products", "Meat" and "Fruit and vegetables" as well as their particularities as regards RFID. The third section was a panel discussion with representatives from science and industry on how the future development of this technology in the food sector can be shaped purposefully, and advanced.
