Experience the shopping of the future
A central element of the METRO GROUP Future Store Initiative is the Future Store. In this store of the future, initiative partners test new technologies and innovative service concepts for retailing, and with great success. Some of the applications tested under real-life conditions have already been introduced in selected stores and METRO GROUP sales brands. Among the innovations already in use are Self-Checkouts, Smart Scales and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID).
Pushing the shopping of tomorrow
The aim of the tests in the real,- Future Store is to drive forward the modernization process in retailing and to improve supply chain management efficiency. On top of that, the tests also allow METRO GROUP to tailor its product range and customer care more precisely to different customer groups. To this end, the retailing group is testing innovative solutions for both warehouse management and the sales floor.
Outstanding concept
The world’s first Future Store opened in Rheinberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, in April 2003. Its foundation sent out a message to the rest of the industry and underlined the importance of Germany as a center of innovation. In spring 2006, the initiative "Deutschland – Land der Ideen" (Germany – Land of Ideas), established by the German government and the private sector, awarded the Future Store the title "Ort im Land der Ideen" (Landmark in the Land of Ideas).
real,- Future Store with a new look
After four successful years in Rheinberg, METRO GROUP is opening a new real,- Future Store in spring 2008. The testing and group-wide introduction of new technologies and concepts is being continued in a real,- hypermarket in Toenisvorst, North Rhine-Westphalia. This helps METRO GROUP cement its position as innovation leader in retailing.
