End-user requirements for RFID use in the clothing branch
About a third of the users have had positive experience with RFID Nonetheless, there is still need for information on the effects and way to use the technology. This is shown by the study "End-user requirements for RFID" by the Forschungsinstitut für Rationalisierung (FIR, research institute for rationalisation) at the Rhineland Westphalia Technical University Aix-la-Chapelle. Within the scope of the project "Trusted RFID – Trust Seal for RFID applications", the scientists questioned 143 user about their knowledge and personal experience with radio frequency identification. The study can be obtained free of charge.
RFID and Identity Management in Everyday Life
In the comprehensive study, the STOA Office (Scientific Technology Options Assessment) of the European Parliament reports on "RFID and Identity Management in Everyday Life", the chances of the technology in Europe are illustrated on the basis of numerous case examples, information scenarios and expert discussions.
Middle sized business sees chances
Efficient logistical processes and little inventory use: The majority of business and facilities in Berlin and Brandenburg evaluate the performance characteristics of RFID positively. This was the result of an online pole of 100 participants from the consumer and investment branch, service industry and commerce as well as public facilities by the Technical University of Berlin (TFH). A summary of the results of the online pole about "RFID in Berlin/Brandenburg" is available at www.beuth-hochschule.de.
RFID in NRW – seven fields of action. Strategic potential analysis for politics and administration
The economic location North Rhine Westphalia has superb prerequisites for further advancing the use of RFID. This is the conclusion of the potential analysis made by appointment of the Düsseldorf State Chancellery. The emphasis was on the question of what the government of the most populated province can do to achieve the breakthrough of radio frequency identification different areas of the economy. The study "RFID in NRW – seven fields of action. Strategic potential analysis for politics and administration" is available for downloading in the Internet for www.ftk.de.
RFID: Potentials for Germany
RFID will be established as cross section technology in the middle-term. This is a result of the study published in March 2007 that was completed by VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH on appointment of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology The focus of the comprehensive investigation is on total economic effect of introducing the technology. Application areas – commerce/consumer goods industry, logistics and automobile industry. A summary of the study can be downloaded at www.bmwi.de.
RFID: Ready for Action
Constantly high and stable reader rates for using RFID transponders on commercial units are also possible under regular working conditions. The most important requirements for it are the best location fort he transponder as well as binding process rules. This is the interim result of a pilot project started jointly by the METRO GROUP and Intel Solution Services in July 2006. The positive results of the analysis show that RFID can already be used in practice today. "RFID: Ready for practical use" is available in English and can be ordered at: +49 (211) 6886-2004.
EECC UHF Tag Performance Survey
The new EECC-Study "UHF Tag Performance Survey" provides readers with a comprehensive overview of the influence that various materials can have on the operating efficiency of 20 different UHF RFID transponders designed to comply with EPCglobal’s Class1 Gen2 communication protocol and the ISO standard 18000-6C. What is special in this study is that it includes, for the first time, transponders with four different chips in the measuring range between 800 and 1,000 MHz. The study can be ordered from the GS1 Germany website.
Legal dimensions of the radio frequency identification
The expertise of Professor Bernd Holznagel, director of the Institute for Information Telecommunication and Media Law of the Wilhelm University of Muenster deals with the current legal situation with respect to RFID. Anyone interested can download the results at www.info-rfid.de.
